Making Your Donation
Contributing to the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund (HDSF) is easy and will make a significant difference to the lives of the hard working, DC public high school students that we serve! Hoop Dreams accepts donations in the following ways.  HDSF is a 501c3 organization (EIN # 52-2079470) and contributions are fully tax-deductible.  Thank you for considering various ways to support our organization and the youth we serve.

Donations of Stock or other Accrued Assets

Through a generous probono arrangement with Friedman Billings Ramsey Group, Inc., HDSF is capable of receiving these donations at no cost to us.  For more information on how to handle this donation, please speak with your financial advisor and call Rachel Molinaro at 202-414-4840.

Giving Options

Unrestricted Contributions
Unrestricted support from foundations, corporations and individuals is a primary and crucial source of revenue for HDSF, allowing us to direct the funding to the areas of greatest need within our scholarship system and program budgets.  Contributions of $1,000 or more qualify the donor as an HDSF “Top Sponsor” and provide a certain number of benefits to the donor.

Restricted Contributions
Restricted Support of Specific Programs Foundations, corporations and individuals may select a specific HDSF program to support based on funding priorities or interests.  Donations can be directed to support any or all of our three yearlong programs (College-Prep Mentoring, Internship and Princeton Review S.A.T. Prep).  Additionally, donations can be directed to support only our scholarship awards.  Lastly, donations can be directed to help HDSF handle overhead and related expenses.  If requested, HDSF will work with sponsors to provide appropriate recognition for their contribution in line with our Sponsor Benefits package.

Direct Support of HDSF Events
HDSF holds a number of annual events that benefit our students and help us achieve our unique mission of building bridges among members of the Washington, DC community.  While incredibly rewarding and entertaining for all those who attend, these events do incur a significant expense to HDSF.  In exchange for special or added recognition, donations can be made to directly underwrite HDSF events, thus allowing us to better spend our budget funds on our scholarship recipients and our yearlong programs.

Tributes (Honorary or Memorial Gifts)
Tributes are a wonderful way to sustain the memory of a loved one or mark an important occasion or distinction in a person's life.  Donations in honor or in memory of a friend or family member are acknowledged in specific accord with the donor's wishes – HDSF will send an appropriate letter to the individual or family of the individual specified in the tribute.

Bequests and Special Gifts
HDSF welcomes bequests and special gifts as another means of ensuring that our mission and programs will continue into the future.  As a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, HDSF can be named as a full or partial beneficiary in a will, life insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity or trust fund.  We welcome the opportunity to discuss this giving option and can provide copies of our tax-exempt certification documents and audited financial statements in order to facilitate a donation.

Matching Gifts
If you are employed by, retired from, or a board member of a business or organization with a matching gift program, you may be able to double your donation to HDSF.  Please forward the appropriate paperwork to HDSF so that we may follow up on your behalf.

In-Kind Contributions
HDSF welcomes the donation of products and services from foundations, corporations and individuals.  Such gifts offset various costs and often help us conduct our business more effectively.  HDSF can provide documentation for in-kind contributions to ensure that the donor receives appropriate tax benefits.

Volunteers
Volunteers are an incredibly precious resource and are vital to the ongoing success of HDSF programs and events!  Give your time and energy at any of our events or by helping us with projects at our office.  There are many opportunities to donate your time - simply call Rachel Cleaver  at (202) 289-6478 to discuss options.

Workplace Giving
If your place of employment conducts an annual charitable gift drive, please consider designating HDSF as a recipient.  For United Way efforts, please note that for Fall 2004, Hoop Dreams needs to be written in on pledge forms as noted below under "United Way".  Thank you.
