Hoop Dreams Program Year Kicked Off with Symonds, Wong, Hill and Rowe
The Hoop Dreams program year had a tremendous start. In October, a new class of 74 Hoop Dreams scholars was paired with nearly 100 mentors from the local business community at the annual Student/Mentor Meet and Greet. Hoop Dreams Board member and COO of the Washington Mystics Curtis Symonds, along with Tien Wong, founder of Opus8 kicked off the Monthly Mentoring Workshops as keynote speakers in October. Longtime Hoop Dreams friends and supporters Emil Hill and Emily Rowe delivered meaningful lessons on life and communication skills at the November Mentoring Workshop.

Hoop Dreams with The Potomac Officers Club
Hoop Dreams has been named as one of ten local charities to participate in The Potomac Officers Club new Corporate Citizenship program. Initiated by community-minded POC members, which includes many of the most influential CEOs in the area, the program emphasizes the importance of integrating select nonprofit groups into the mainstream area business agenda. POC’s Corporate Citizenship program will promote the designated nonprofits along with corporate sponsors on a monthly basis at POC events. Officially rolling out in January 2006, the program provides local business leaders and area nonprofits the opportunity to connect and establish new relationships. The Potomac Officers Club is a nonprofit membership organization that fosters peer-to-peer collaboration among prominent C-level business executives in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. A Bid for a Brighter Future - Support Hoop Dreams Online!

Participants in American University’s Washington Initiative class have chosen Hoop Dreams as the non profit that they are working for this semester. As a requirement for the class they are to develop and execute a fundraiser for the non profit they have chosen. They chose to conduct an online auction. "A Bid for a Brighter Future." With assistance from ezAuctioning they have collected items on the American University campus and at a mall event held this past weekend. Along with putting on the event, the students also learned more about Hoop Dreams by attending events and volunteering with the program.

There are a couple ways you can help this effort from anywhere in the country!

Click here to visit the link to the items the Washington Initiative class has posted.

If you are in the Washington DC Metro area and have items that you would like to sell on eBay and have the profits go to Hoop Dreams - you can do so at any time by taking your items to one of the two ezAuctioning locations in Arlington and Alexandria. If any items are large - they will even come and pick up items! ezAuctioning then handles all aspects of the eBay auction and sends a check directly to Hoop Dreams. ezAuctioning is keeping an account open for Hoop Dreams!

A special thank you to the Washington Initiative students, their teacher Allison Holcomb, Dean Larry Ward, and the staff at ezAuctioning for making this possible.

Seasons Greetings from Hoop Dreams!
As 2005 comes to a close, we thank those that have made such a positive impact on Hoop Dreams during the past twelve months. Without your help Hoop Dreams would not be able to pursue our mission of empowering DC public high school students and building bridges of understanding between diverse communities. This year we celebrated our 10th annual 3-on-3 Charity Basketball Tournament and Community Festival, awarded our 1,110th academic scholarship, helped send our 750th DC public high school student to college, enrolled 80 new Hoop Dreams scholars in college from the class of 2005 and saw our 125th Hoop Dreams scholar graduate from college. It has been a meaningful year!

We are proud of our accomplishments and hope you can continue to support us in the coming year. Susie Kay, the Board of Directors and the Staff of Hoop Dreams with heartfelt appreciation wish you happy holidays and peace in the New Year!

As always, thank you for your support of The Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund. If you would like to make a financial contribution to Hoop Dreams, you may do so online by clicking here. Your investment in Hoop Dreams is an investment in the future.
