IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE CLOSING OF HOOP DREAMS

During the past 13 years The Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund has had an incredibly positive and lasting impact on the lives of 1,000 public high school students from Washington, D.C., as well as thousands more people who have been part of the Hoop Dreams community.

We will always be humbled by, and grateful for, the outpouring of support, especially during these upcoming months when we go through the painful process of winding down the organization with great care and respect.

Please see the information below for answers to critical questions.

Students

If you participated in Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund during the 2008-2009 school year and were awarded an academic scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year, please know that your full award amount is secure and will be distributed to your institution this coming fall and next spring.

If you are currently enrolled in college and were awarded a renewal scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year your scholarship funding is also safe and secure. The full amount of your award will be dispersed to your institution this coming fall and next spring.

Unfortunately, because of the wind down of the organization we are unable to commit to scholarships beyond what you have already been awarded for the 2009-2010 school year. We will also be unable to ensure funding for students who were issued awards but defer college admittance until a future date.

If you are an HDSF student and have further questions please contact Program Director Theo Brannum at 202-289-6157 or tbrannum@hoopdreams.org

Donors

If you have made a donation to Hoop Dreams prior to June 23, 2009, please know that it will go directly to students either in scholarship awards or services provided to ensure that they have the resources and information they need for continuing support after Hoop Dreams has closed.

If you have made a pledge prior to June 23, 2009, please know that your pledge has been factored into our ability to ensure that all students are taken care of and following through with your pledge is critically important.

As of June 23, 2009 all incoming donations to the organization will be placed in an escrow account until we determine the vehicle through which the spirit of Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund will live on. Once this decision is made Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund will notify each individual donor and give them one of two options: have your donation returned in full or elect to have your donation transferred toward the to-be-determined legacy effort.

If you are a donor and have any further questions, please contact Richard Kamenitzer at rpkamenitzer@yahoo.com

Volunteers

We are extremely grateful to all of the many volunteers who have helped build this organization over the past 13 years. From mentors to technical gurus each volunteer has added to the fabric of this organization. As we continue to sort through this unfolding process we will work diligently to keep you informed.

If you enjoyed your experience as a Hoop Dreams mentor and would like to continue your work please contact Theo Brannum at 202-289-6751 or tbrannum@hoopdreams.org for recommendations on similar efforts. Again, thank you for all of your support.
